How Andre Sets Up Quick Picks in Eaglesoft: The Buttons in the Chart are Called Quick Picks. Are Yours Quick to Pick?

There are 24 little rectangular buttons on the right side of the Clinical Chart called Quick Picks. Twenty-two (the top twenty-two) of them can be assigned to Service Codes and Two (the bottom two) can assigned to Conditions. What I recommend is that each office review their most commonly used Service Codes THEN start to re-assign the quick picks.

TO START OFF, THERE ARE TWO OPTIONS:

  1. IF you see that there are LOTS of changes that you want to make AND it seems like it is going to take forever to get this done.  There is a shortcut.   The Patterson Technology Center can run a “SQL Command” that will “remove ALL Services Assigned to Quick Pick Buttons” in one quick move.  THEN you can add back what you want to a blank setup.

  2. IF you see that there are small changes that you want to make to your list.  Go for it!

Here is the process I take with my client offices.  Print the Quick Pick Assignment Master report to see what is currently assigned to each button. Each of the twenty-two Services Quick Pick button should be assigned to the most commonly use Service Codes for a “category”.  Then the drop-down list connected to that button should include the other Service Codes for that category.

Example: Most commonly Quick Pick button #1 is assigned to D0120 Evaluation – Periodic. THAT is the most commonly done Evaluation in a general dentistry office.  The drop-down list associated with Quick Pick button #1 would include the other exams done by the office (i.e. D0140, D0150, D0160, D0170).  So, think of button #1 as the “Exam button” with the associated Exams on the drop-down.

An example of our typical set-up is in the Figure above.  Buttons 9 and 10 are usually changed from Inlays and Onlays to more commonly used Service Codes for an office (i.e. Night Guards or Ortho).

The bottom two buttons (#23 & 24) can be assigned with the most commonly found Conditions (i.e., Abscess and Impaction).

To reassign the Quick Pick button, you go to File > Preferences > Quick Picks.  Click on a Button number and choose a Service Code you want to replace the existing code.  When finished, click OK.

To reassign the Service Codes on the drop-down list associated with a Quick Pick, go to List > Service Codes > Find the code you want to assign. Edit the code. On the right side of the open window click Chart Setup.  In the open window look for “Button Group”.  Use the drop-down to choose the Quick Pick button you want to associate this Service Code to.  Close the window. Click OK and repeat until you have assigned all the Service Codes to the Quick Picks.

To assign an Exploding Code to a Quick pick you can go to List > Exploding Codes. Find the Exploding Code you want to assign.  Edit the Exploding Code.  In the open window look for “Button Group”.  Use the drop-down to choose the Quick Pick button you want to associate this Exploding Code to.  Click OK and repeat until you have assigned all the Exploding Codes to the Quick Picks.

If you have created Administrative Codes, those can be assigned to your Quick pick too!

HERE IS THIS MOST IMPORTANT POINT OF THE QUICK PICKS!

The use is Smart Codes (Code that recognize when you enter 3 surfaces on a restoration the code changes to a 3-surface restoration) make it simple to add ONE code to a Quick Pick and upon choosing surfaces the code will be replaced by the proper Service Code.  The same applies for Dentures (set up with Smart Codes).  If you chose D5110 (Upper Denture) and then chose lower teeth the code will change to D5120 Lower Denture.  This eliminated almost HALF of the Service Codes from having to be added to the dropdowns.

How an office sets them up is truly up to them BUT, here is what I suggest for our clients to start and then they can change:

  • Button 1 includes all evaluations (“exams”) performed by the practice

  • Button 2 includes all the Imaging done in the office

  • Button 3 includes the adult prophy, adult fluoride (We create an Administrative code for that) and any code that would be Adult “Prophy” related.

  • Button 4 includes the child prophy, fluoride, sealants and any code that would be Child “Prophy” related

  • Button 5 includes all perio procedures performed by the Hygienists

  • Button 6 has NOTHING in the drop-down list. IF the office doesn’t “do” amalgams it is available to chart existing restorations. All variants of the code, 2, 3 and 4 surfaces come from the Smart Codes.

  • Button 7 has NOTHING in the drop-down list. All variants of the code, 2, 3 and 4 surfaces come from the Smart Codes.

  • Button 8 has NOTHING in the drop-down list. All variants of the code, 2, 3 and 4 surfaces come from the Smart Codes.

  • Button 9 Night guards and/or products that the office dispenses

  • Button 10 all orthodontic codes

  • Button 11 all the offices common crown codes

  • Button 12 all post, pins and buildups

  • Button 13 has NOTHING in the drop-down list.
All variants of the code, anterior, bicuspid and molar come from the Smart Codes.

  • Button 14 includes all perio procedures performed by the Dentists

  • Button 15 all other Full dentures codes. Uppers only (using Smart Codes for lowers)

  • Button 16 all other Partial dentures codes. Uppers only (using Smart Codes for lowers)

  • Button 17 all Bridge pontics

  • Button 18 all Bridge abutments (including the “wings” for the Maryland bridge)

  • Button 19 all surgical (7000) codes

  • Button 20 all implant procedures commonly used by the practice

  • Button 21 all emergency services

  • Button 22 all whitening

There are two Condition buttons #23 and 24. That should include the two most commonly “found” Conditions. Typically, Impaction and Watches. (link to watch as a condition)
