How Andre Charts Missing And Extracted Teeth In Eaglesoft
One of my "pet peeves" is seeing teeth marked as "Missing".
DID THE PATIENT NEVER "GROW" THEM (CONGENITALLY MISSING)?
WERE THEY EXTRACTED BY OUR OFFICE (COMPLETED)?
WHAT HAPPENED TO THOSE TEETH?
Well in this chart you can tell that #1 is Referred out for extraction (Brown is my referred color), #2 is Proposed to be Extracted by our office. #3 previously extracted (Existing). #4 was congenitally missing, #5 was previously extracted for ortho (Existing).
Step one is to stop marking teeth as a Condition of "Missing" and mark teeth that were previously extracted as Extractions that are Existing (using the Service Code D7140).
Step two is to use the condition of Congenitally Missing when Congenitally Missing is the true condition. My color choices help (but, as long as you have different colors for each of the stages, I'm OK with that). To get the “Orthodontic Extraction” I created an "Admin" Service Code A7140 “Extraction - For Orthodontic Tx”. (See pic) It's on my Extraction Quickpick Drop down list. I chose it, mark it as existing. The draw type connected to it a Custom Draw Type based on the Missing Tooth Draw Type with two small arrows pointing in to designate the closed space.
When it comes to Referred Extractions I edit the description of the Full Boney Impacted Extraction (most of the offices I have worked with do not do this procedure). I change the Description to “Extraction - Referred” and remove the Fee. I also create a Custom Draw Type the is a straight vertical line (see above). So on a quick visual review, an office can tell the following:
Tooth with brown line = Referred Extraction (incomplete)
Tooth with grey line = Referred Extraction (completed by referred office)
Tooth with green “X” = Proposed Extraction to be done in this office
Tooth with grey “X” = Extraction that was Existing on an initial Exam
Tooth with Blue “X” = Extraction that was Completed by this office
…and yes “Exfoliated” in my opinion is an Existing Extraction and NOT a “Missing Tooth”
