When A Tooth Is Extracted and An Implant Is Placed, You Can’t Perio Chart That Implant. How Andre Creates a Workaround in Eaglesoft.
Charting dental implants can be tricky in Eaglesoft. Many systems were updated with Service Codes over the years but were not properly attached to Implant Draw Types and the sequence codes are entered can determine is the implant will look properly in the chart.
The first recommendation is to go to File>Preferences>Perio and make use to Indicate Teeth With Implants is selected.
The Second thing I recommend that an office does is to check the connection to Draw Types.
1) Go to List>Service Code
2) Edit the D6010 code.
3) Click on Chart Setup.
4) Make sure that the Draw Type is set for Implant Blade or Cylinder add the Action Code is Non-Functional Tooth (See pic):
Next Edit the D6058 (or whichever Implant Crown you're using and
1) edit that code.
2) Click on Chart Setup.
4) Make sure that the Draw Type is set for Crown (See pic):
There is another problem that offices who place implants will face. If the tooth was extracted by the office or if the tooth was Charted as Missing or as an Existing Extraction, the Implant placement will not “restore” the tooth to be able to be Perio Charted. You might get the following warning (see pic) that will require some “tricks”. I HAVE tested and have found that if after completing an Extraction AND then completing the Implant and Crown I was able to Perio Chart. So, if the Service Codes are set up as above, you “shouldn’t” have an issue. But if you do…
I’ve tested right clicking on the tooth in the Perio Chart and using the “Restore Tooth” option. Didn’t work.
My first suggested workaround for offices who place implants is to create a Service Code for “EXTRACT - ERUPTED/EXPOSED TOOTH [IMP TX]”. This is an in-office Admin Code that submits to Insurance as a D7140 but has an Action Code of Non-functional Tooth so it will be available to Perio Chart.
My second suggestion for those office who don’t “like” option 1, is to edit the original Extraction and change the Tooth number to the corresponding Primary Tooth number. Not always going to work but it’s a workaround.
Remember that when you chart a Patient who has an Existing Implant, there is NO need to chart the Extracted/Missing tooth. The Implant itself does that.
